Basic Audio Pedals - Boost Guitar Pedals

Basic Audio Pedals

Basic Audio founder John Lyons has been making guitar pedals since 2003, and before that he ran a recording studio. As a result, he knows what he's doing and is one of the best in the business at creating incredible fuzz pedals. Even the enclosure designs are damn cool!

Originally from California, John set up shop in Fayetteville, West Virginia. Basic Audio has developed a cult following for its superb takes on some all-time classic fuzz pedals, as well as some unique fuzz circuits and other pedals.

As Stefan Karlsson of Guitar Pedal X states, "All of John’s pedals are beautifully tuned, and you can guarantee the very best components and tone."

BASIC AUDIO Scarab Deluxe

£210.00

The Basic Audio Scarab Deluxe is the company's flagship guitar pedal. It takes the famed silicon Tone Bender MKII circuit and builds on it with some home and stage-friendly modifications.

The Fat control is a variable low frequency input control, allowing you to optimise the pedal for humbuckers or single coils. by adjusting its response and feel, from girthy to snappy.

Tonebender-type circuits vary depending on the bias of the 3rd transistor. Adjust the Bias control for gritty, gated tones at one end of the dial, sustaining lead tones in the middle, and sweet lower-gain tones at the other end of the rotation. Bias affects tone and gain.

Some Tone Bender MKII pedals can get lost in a mix, but the inclusion of a Tone control ensures that you'll never get swamped by the rhythm section again.

Features:

  • Based on the legendary Tone Bender MKII
  • Level, Tone, Fuzz, Fat & Bias controls
  • Handwired in Fayetteville, West Virginia, USA
  • 9V power supply, centre-negative or 9V battery (neither are included)

BASIC AUDIO Futureman

£210.00

The Basic Audio Futureman is based on the Colorsound Overdriver. A medium gain dynamic overdrive, this is a fantastic pedal for adding some grunt or sparkle to your sound and veers nicely into fuzz territory too.

The Futureman's flexible EQ section allows you to tweak High and Low settings independently. Experiment with sounds ranging from thick and muscular with scooped mids to treble-boosted and cutting.

The Futureman also stacks with other pedals really well: put it after another overdrive/fuzz and use its powerful EQ to contour the other pedal, helping you to cut through a busy mix.

Features:

  • Overdrive/fuzz pedal based on the Colorsound Overdriver
  • Volume, Gain, High & Low controls
  • Handwired in Fayetteville, West Virginia, USA
  • 9V power supply, centre-negative or 9V battery (neither are included)

BASIC AUDIO Spooky Tooth

£210.00

The Basic Audio Spooky Tooth is one of John Lyon's best known pedals. A mash up of Orpheum, Fuzzrite and Super Fuzz circuit types, with some Big Muff raunch thrown in for good measure, he describes it as "Neil Young in a box".

It's an incredibly versatile fuzz with an aggressive character thanks to the silicon transistors. The Spooky Tooth provides the sag and bloom of an amp on the edge, with the lightly scooped mids accentuating the thick bottom end and zingy highs. It's really reactive to picking strength, compressing nicely under heavier picking or chords.

You can dial your sound in with the Texture control, which blends between one and two gain stages for lower to high-gain tones, and gives an octave-up tonality near the centre position.

A surprisingly versatile pedal that can carry out more than just fuzz duties.

Features:

  • A "greatest hits" fuzz pedal with tons of versatility
  • Volume, Fuzz, Texture & Saturate controls
  • Handwired in Fayetteville, West Virginia, USA
  • 9V power supply, centre-negative or 9V battery (neither are included)
