About the STOMPNORTH Clipshear Getter Drive

Stompnorth's flagship Clipshear Getter Drive combines two separate boost/overdrive circuits with optional silicon and germanium clipping diodes to achieve a multitude of low to mid-gain tones.

Stompnorth founder Duncan MacKinnon designed the Clipshear Getter Drive to be an integral part of your rig, an "always on" pedal that enhances your core tone. It provides up to 17dB of clean boost that can push the input of your valve amp.

    Clipshear Getter Drive Sections

The first circuit is a MOSFET transistor which gives amp-like response and overdrive characteristics. On its own it provides clean boost through to mild crunch.

The MOSFET feeds into the 12AU7 valve circuit, which has a warmer, sweeter character and gets into full overdrive territory.

The clipping diodes are the final section of the pedal and add distortion to the signal if engaged.

    Clipshear Getter Drive Controls

Gain The Gain control adjusts the amount of gain the MOSFET section produces, which is then fed into the pre-amplification circuit of the valve. You can achieve deliciously organic overdrive - MOSFETs are known for their amp-like qualities - in combination with the Volume control.

Valve The Valve control adds gain to the valve signal path, which produces an amazingly responsive and warm character ranging from subtle boost to sweet overdrive and flat-out saturation. Used in tandem with the Gain control, you can achieve tons of sustain and a thick overdrive sound.

Si/Ge The Si/Ge toggle switch gives you two different flavours of diode clipping, plus the option to disengage the diodes altogether. The Silicon setting adds an aggressive, precise punch with plenty of sizzle, while the Germanium diode is quieter, much more spongy, and can achieve tons of saturation.

Vol The Volume control is an active master volume control. Used on its own with no gain engaged, the Clipshear Getter Drive can produce up to 17dB of clean boost.

The Stompnorth Clipshear Getter Drive is handmade in Scotland from the highest quality components. It's the perfect pedal if you're after superb translation of your core tone for low to mid-gain purposes, and works well as a DAW preamp thanks to its variety of drive and distortion sections.
